“Well, she couldn’t be worse,” said Felicia Fey whose narrow escape had scared them all further.  “I hope she doesn’t perceive that purple streak in her hair until she gets home.”

“She’s the one that deserved it,” countered Felicia’s friends, William Waggish and Pauline Puerile in unison.  They shared a “high five” as William proceeded to happily recite another one of his infamous limericks, this one entitled “Frigid English.”

The American colonies inherited ideas about human rights from the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights. Both these documents limited the power of royalty and raise the power of the people. The English law making body, Parliament, was established to limit the power of the king and give more power to the people.

The battle to limit the king resulted in the English Civil War in which the king was executed by Parliament. Later Parliament removed another king who would not listen to them. Most Americans were well aware of this history.
